How the Christmas tree became the symbol of Christmas
The Christmas tree is one of the most popular symbols of Christmas celebrations.
Pine symbolizes life, as it is one of the few trees that always stays green, even during winter, when most trees lose their leaves.
According to legend, in the year 1530 in Germany, Luther walked through the woods and was enchanted by the sight of a snow-covered pine tree and under the glow of the stars in the sky. When he got home, he tried to reproduce to his family the beautiful image he had seen, using pine branches, cotton (to symbolize the snow) and some candles and other props, imitating the stars.
